CzechToll from the PPF Group, along with SkyToll, which operates the Slovak electronic toll system, welcome the decision of the Ministry of Transport, which has decided on the winner of the tender for a new toll system operator in the Czech Republic. The consortium of the two companies is prepared to sign the relevant contracts immediately after the resolution of the objections raised by the previous operator Kapsch before the Office for the Protection of Competition, so that the new system is fully operational by 1 January 2020.
CzechToll is a strategic partner in the consortium and its participation is a part of the broader strategy of the PPF Group in the area of telecommunications infrastructure. SkyToll is the supplier of the technical solution.
Under the Ministry of Transport tender, the consortium offered state-of-the-art satellite technology (GNSS) for the purpose of toll collection. The GPS identification system, with the possibility of extending the European GALILEO system, will be used to determine the position of vehicles. The DSRC microwave technology at the control gantries will be used to the maximum for enforcement purposes. The total cost of operating the new toll system by CzechToll is CZK 2.7 billion lower than the second best offer received by the Ministry of Transport, from Kapsch.
Further details on the bid of the CzechToll and SkyToll consortium will be published in the coming days.
