More working days in July brought a 25% year-on-year increase in toll collection, carriers paid CZK 1.47 billion

Prague, 22 August 2024 – Compared to last year, this July had three more working days. This has had a significant impact on the amount of tolls collected for the use of roads and motorways by lorries. Carriers paid almost CZK 1.47 billion, up 25% year-on-year. The number of toll transactions processed also grew accordingly: the satellite toll system processed almost 98 million toll transactions (up 11% year-on-year).

Total toll collection in the first seven months of this year reached almost CZK 9.99 billion. Year-on-year, this represented the growth of 15%. At the same time, a vast majority of revenues comes from toll charges for using motorways – specifically, they account for CZK 8.69 billion (88.6%) of the total collection since the beginning of the year.

Approximately 80% of the total CZK 1.47 billion collected in July was attributable to the charges for using roads. The second largest component of the toll charges, approximately 15%, was the CO2 air pollution charge introduced in accordance with EU legislation since the beginning of March this year. Less than 5% of the toll revenue was made up of a charge for externalities caused by air pollution and traffic noise.

As at the end of July 864 thousand vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons were registered in the electronic toll system, of which over 683 thousand vehicles had foreign license plate numbers. For these registered vehicles, CzechToll issued 655 thousand on-board units to carriers.
